Canon Photo Marathon 2009

10th October 2009 - After completing the Run for the Nation at 8:05am, I rushed home, took a quick shower and headed to Elephant Walk next to Sunway Lagoon, where the Canon Photo Marathon Malaysia 2009 was held.

After a brief introduction to the rules and regulations, we were given 3 themes to shoot for the day:
  1. SPLASH!
  2. RED
  3. SHOOTING IN PROGRESS
Here are my entries for the marathon at the end of the day:

SPLASH!
A lot of people (including me) took pictures of people splashing water in the pool or being splashed with water. I tried to be slightly creative. We usually link the word "SPLASH" with water not being used properly. The photo i took had a small "splash" as the water drips from the tap onto the surface of the lake. Somehow the photo also implies that we should Save water, and not let it flood the whole lake.

RED
There were plenty of red colored items to be photographed all around us in Sunway Lagoon, including the RED Canon Photo Marathon tees that all the participants wore. I stumbled upon a sprouting plant with a small red fruit next to it. The red fruit seemed to be in contrast with its surrounding. Seem to be the only fruit "alive" amongst the rest of the dried ones.

SHOOTING IN PROGRESS
Most participants I know took photos of other participants (probably in awkward positions) taking pictures during the marathon. Walking further into the ATV tracks, I came upon a small pond, with an interesting backdrop of a herd of gazelles leaping from one end of the pond to the other end. Gazelles around the word are considered endangered species, being hunted for their prized horns. Since illegal gazelle hunting is still happening around the world today, hence the theme "Shooting in progress".

I had a great time at the marathon, and this event had undoubtedly opened my eyes to the world of photography.
